(Jon Hess, US, 1996)
More video-shelf filler material in this macho action movie package posing as SF. Oliver Gruner, of limited Nemesis fame, travels to Mars in 2056 to investigate the death of his brother (ugh!). The all-powerful Inter-Galactic Mining Corporation (ugh!) controls the mining of Silex, a precious metal and the company's using corrupt cops to enforce its extreme rules. Alpha City (ugh!) is the centre for the lawless and it seems Gruner's brother was last seen there - possibly involved in the supply of an illegal drug called Z-Byte (ugh!). Aaaagghhh! I can't be bothered to write any more. The plot is a pointless reworking of western themes, Total Recall and Outland (which in itself was a reworking of High Noon!) that is merely an excuse to produce a vehicle for ex-French Navy Seal Gruner to punch as many people as possible. Minor point of interest - some nifty sub-Babylon 5-ish CGI effects - otherwise avoid.
