Laibach - Opus Dei (Revisited)
Islington Assembly Rooms, London - 22 February 2025
"The
reworking may even be better than the original"
I arrived nice
and early to the Assembly Rooms so I could, as I normally try to do
get to the front – so I could get some photos of the performance,
both for myself and to share with others. I really like the Assembly
Rooms it’s a lovely venue and has a great sound system, and with a
performance from Laibach about to start - what is not to like.
I will get
this out o the way first – normally bands have other artists music
playing before and after the show and during the interval, not
Laibach, they had a repeated drum loop from Leben heißt Leben
(only a couple of bars) and I have to say it did nearly drive me
insane. But I will forgive them given the fabulous set they
performed – along with the wonderful imagery projected behind them.
The
performance was split into three parts the initial set being a
warmup to the main event Opus Dei (Revisited). I was always
a big fan of the original Opus Dei album, but I have to say
the reworking is equally as good, and may be even be better than the
original.
As ever, Laibach provided some wonderful cover versions
with I Wanna to Know What Love is being fun, and Strange
Fruit being appropriately dark. 9/10 (10/10
if you could have coped with the drum loop).
