Phantom Quest Corps

(Koichi Chigara/Morio Asaka, 1994)

A refreshing change from the usually po-faced occult anime (Demons! Armageddon! Dismemberment!), this is light, fluffy and roughly comparable in depth to Baby Spice. The two-episode tape follows the adventures of the eponymous business, a bunch of freelance exorcists and ghostbusters, perpetually strapped for cash thanks to their leader's extravagant ways.

The 30-minute format doesn't allow for a great deal of character development, but at least that's because they're pretty much fully formed from episode one. The dubbing is actually excellent; though I can't comment on the translation, for once they've got voice actors willing to give it their all. The result is silly but very pleasant entertainment, with few pretensions to anything else. 6/10
