Zeram

aka Zeiramu

(Keita Amamiya, Japan, 1991)

Attractive Yuko Moriyama portays bounty hunter Iria who must save the Earth from alien bio-organic, non-stop killing thingy, Zeram Aided by her talking computer she kicks alien butt with a vengeance. Power Rangers for the over 18s. Great-looking (particularly the costumes), explosive, and good fun if you're in an undemanding, no-brainer mood. Otherwise, the plodding pace, seen-it-all before imagery and weak comedy will get the better of you. A reasonable English voice dub version, unfortunately spoilt by an unsubtle audio mix, was released by Manga Video on their Live imprint. Also available in a superior animated (anime) version as Iria (1993).
