Words by Bill Wray and Mike Mignola, art by Various Published by Dark Horse Maverick
This is one of the funniest comics I've read in ages. An anthology of short strips, Hellboy Jr covers a variety of subjects with total irreverence. Drugs, sex, race relations. That Bill (Ren & Stimpy) Wray is one twisted puppy.
So, in issue #1, Idi Amin gives up his teeth for Hellboy Jr to have his first drug trip, and ends up meeting Mother Theresa. We meet the Wolvertons, a booze-ridden half-alien family who are the total the antithesis of The Waltons. And we get Mignola's hilarious Squid of Man story, which is most true to the current Hellboy ethic and gives Death all the best lines. There's even a titty pin-up. Issue #2 continues in the same vein, providing laugh-out-loud entertainment that you can take on the train (have you guessed where I read most of my comics, yet?).
The artwork is great here, with the various artists showcasing their distinct styles to pleasing effect. For silly, boozy laughs, you can't do much better than this.
