(Story and art by Richard Sala, Published by Fantagraphics)
Evil Eye is a truly gothic comic. I don't mean gothic in the sense of wearing lots of black, painting your face white and hanging around graveyards drinking cider. I mean gothic in the Victorian sense, the chills-running-down-your-spine sense. Richard Sala's artwork is reminiscent of East European woodcuts, and the two ongoing stories are really very creepy. I think it's the whole sense of being preyed on that gets to me. With each issue ending on an obtuse cliffhanger, I can only suggest you get all the back issues and wait avidly for the next one to come out, all the while muttering "it's only a comic, it's only a comic" if you get too creeped-out.
